Slotted Type & Conventional Slotted Boxes

  • Slotted Box styles are generally made from one piece of corrugated fiberboard. The Blank is scored and slotted to permit folding. The box manufacturer forms a joint at the point where one side panel and one end panel are brought together. Boxes are then shipped flat to the user. For usage, the user squares up the box and inserts products and closes the flaps. The RSC can be used for most products and is the most common box style.

  • All flaps have the same length. The outer flaps overlap by one inch or more.
  • The box is easily closed, usually with glue driven through the overlap area.
  • This style is used when the length of the box is considerably greater than the width, resulting in a long gap between the inner flaps. The sealed overlap helps to keep the outer flaps from pulling apart.
Center Special Overlap Slotted Container (CSO)
Center Special Overlap Slotted Container (CSO)
  • All flaps have the same length (one-half the length of the box). The length of the box can be no more than twice the width.
  • When closed, the inner flaps meet at the center of the box, providing a level base and full top protection. Depending on the ratio of the length to width, the outer flaps overlap at random, up to full overlap.

  • Inner and outer flaps are cut to different lengths. When closed, the inner flaps meet the center of the box, and the outer flaps fully overlap.
  • With three full layers of combined board over the entire top and bottom, this style provides extra cushioning when stacked on its bottom, or extra stacking strength when stacked on its side.
Snap 0r 1-2-3 Bottom Container with Tuck Top
Snap or 1-2-3 Bottom Container with Tuck Top – 0215

The four flaps forming the bottom panel are die cut. To set up, the user folds the largest bottom panel first, and then the two end panel is folded and pressure is applied near the center, he flaps “snaps” into the slot created by the other panels.

The style is convenient for small-volume shippers who do not have automatic set up equipment. Because the bottom is not fully sealed, it may not be suitable for heavy products.

Snap or 1-2-3 Bottom Container with RSC Top – 0216

The four flaps forming the bottom panel are regular. When set up, this box provides an interlocking thickness on its bottom and on its panels.

The style is convenient for small-volume shippers who do not have automatic set up equipment. Because the bottom is not fully sealed, it may not be suitable for heavy products.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions?

  1. Without exception, the size of a corrugated cardboard is always expressed by three dimensions: Length, Width, and Height. (LxWxH).
  2. Internal dimensions are reckoned by measuring the inside of the box from score to score to determine all three dimensions.
  3. The Length is the larger dimension of the box’s opening.
  4. The width is the smaller dimension.
  5. The Height (Depth) is perpendicular to the opening.

Flute is the wave shapes pressed into corrugated medium, the normal direction of flutes is parallel to the depth (height) of the box, so they are vertical when the box is stacked for shipment.

Flute C: Most common material, crush resistant, and good stacking strength.

Flute B: Takes up less space, puncture resistance. Uses include canned products and displays.

Also known as double face. The medium is between two sheets of linerboard. We can identify the most commonly used boxes called 3 Ply Corrugated Boxes. Largely used in packaging of food, beverages, electronics and other cosmetic products as well as items that are self-supporting. They are light-weight corrugated boxes, durable, eco-friendly, strong enough to handle heavy weights and available in various sizes and shapes.

Also known as 5 ply corrugated boxes, they are used for packaging  food products especially Agro products (yam, fruits, vegetables, etc.) and items that are not self-supporting. They are widely recognized for their high durability and good space, flexibility to protect heavy and bulky items. They provide extra padding. Also available in different sizes and shapes.
